Dearest Friends!

A few of you know that I am going to be going a missions trip to Thailand this summer for seven weeks, serving in the slums of Bangkok. I decided to create a tumblr to keep you all updated about this mission to Thailand and so that you may be more involved in what God’s doing in this world. For the first post, below is a copy of my support letter for those of you who would like to know why I’m going to Thailand and what our team will be doing there.

Sa wat dee kaa!

What a blessing this year has been! The first year of college has been an incredible growing experience as I’ve taken my first steps to being on my own. As I started a new chapter of my life in college, our church, TPC Joy, kicked off our English Ministry and God has been moving and challenging us to grow in many ways. With all these new happenings, God has graciously been teaching me how to love and trust Him more.

Last December, I attended the Urbana missions conference in St. Louis. Through Urbana, God began to break my heart for Thailand, especially for the kids there. On the last night of the conference, I committed to go on a short-term mission trip working with people in poverty. A couple months after Urbana, my brother forwarded me an email about an opportunity to serve on missions in Thailand, working with children in the slums. After much prayer, I felt God calling me to apply. And now, I’ve been accepted to participate in the OMF International Serve Asia program in the slums of Bangkok, Thailand. Our team will be leaving on June 18 and staying there seven weeks.

There is a great need for workers in Thailand as the country is mostly Buddhist and less than 1% Christian. Initially, we will be meeting with missionary families and taking care of the children so that their parents can have a break. During the rest of the trip, we will be working with a church in Bangkok, ministering mostly to the local kids. Our prayer is that, as we welcome the children into the church and build relationships with them, we would also be able to reach their families and bring them the good news of Jesus.

I would like to invite you to participate with me in this ministry through your prayers, for nothing can be done without the work of the Holy Spirit. Would you join me in prayer for:

  •  The Thai people to be receptive to the gospel.
  •  Relationships to be built quickly and God’s love to be seen.
  •  The political situation in Bangkok to be resolved and the people to be kept safe.
  •  God to be glorified through our time spent in Thailand.

Also, if you feel led to support me financially, the total cost of this trip is $3900. Donations can be made to “OMF International” and returned with the attached half-sheet. You will be sent a tax-deductible receipt from OMF.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and invest in the work God is doing in my life. Feel free to email me with questions or your prayer requests! KatieAKuo@gmail.com
