Sa Wat Dee Kha!!
We made it to Bangkok safely and have now spent two days here at the OMF Mission home. The last two days have been super fun as we experienced Thai culture and began to meet and try to talk to people in the community. The Language has been really difficult to pick up and even harder to try to read since SpacesOnlyExistAtTheEndOfSentencesAndEverythingLooksLikeOneHugeWord! The weather is incredibly hot and humid! I didn’t think it could be much hotter or more humid than Taiwan, but I was wrong! It’s almost a hundred degrees and extremely humid. Pray that we’ll get used to the heat quickly and that it wouldn’t stop or discourage us from the work God has planned for us. We’ve taken a few trips on a Thai “bus/taxi” called a song tao (spelling?). It’s basically a pick up truck that you flag down and then just hop in the truck bed — It’s really cool!
Not too much has happened since we arrived since we are still receiving some basic training and working out some schedules for the next week. We were able to make some simple friendships with some kids in the neighborhood as well as random people we meet when we walk around. Although the people are super friendly… you can really feel the darkness that is in this country. There are these spirit houses in front of a lot of houses and it constantly reminds me how much these people need to know Jesus. Everything is based around Buddhism and they even say that to be Thai is to be Buddhist. It can be frustrating to hang out and play with these kids and people knowing that they don’t know our God and how great He is… so keep them in your prayers!
Also please keep praying for:
- Opportunities to share the gospel
- That the language barrier would not discourage us
- God to reveal his plan to us as we go into the slums next week
I am so excited to see what God has in store for us during these next 7 weeks.
with love, peace, and joy,
Katie Kuo
