Sa wat dee kha!
Hopefully this post will save! Sorry again for the looong period of no updates! So much has happened in the last 2 weeks, I’m just gonna write about random things here and there :]
Tuesday-Friday morning I’ve been playing worship songs on the guitar in front of the church at 7:10am until about 8 just so that people can hear worship to the King of kings and that the presence of the church would be known. Even though its pretty tiring waking up at 6:50 after a full day and a late night, I LOVE that hour spent out there. It’s fun to smile at the people passing and to see them smile back… and its really cool being out there at the same time everyday because I get to see the same people as they go to school or work. Although it’s not super personal… it’s still a form of relationship building… There are these cars (called bok boks) that drive up and down the street and pass by the church and some of the drivers are starting to wave at me even when I’m not singing praise in front of the church. Not just the drivers but some local grandpas and grandmas who take their morning walks and some students too :P and it’s opening doors and opportunities for the gospel to be shared.
Thai tea lady: there’s this lady that works selling Thai tea on the side of the street and she always has a super sweet smile when I pass by.. so i made it a goal to make friends with her. Her thai tea was kinda expensive (40 baht / $1.20ish) but i still went because i wanted to be her friend… however, a couple days ago i went to her stand with 2 of my teammates, ted and erik, and she only charged us 20 baht. What a deal, right?! Turns out, she was charging us the “foreigner” price, which was double the regular “Thai price”. hahaha but the cool thing about this story is that she considers us good enough friends now to give us foreigners the thai price. and whenever I pass by her, she always asks “bai nai maa?” which means “where are you coming from” and I’m pretty much always answer “boot” (church). It’s sweet that she’s being exposed to Christianity and starting to have good friendships with Christians in the area. Be praying that I (or someone else on the team) will have an opportunity to share more with her when i’m waiting for my thai tea :]
Guitar Lessons. I’ve been teaching guitar on Saturdays and Kevin teaches with me on Sundays. Not much happens on saturdays, except some of the saturday school kids come in and strum on the guitar while I change chords for them. They like singing the only 2 songs we’ve taught them “My God is so Big” and “God is so good” and they sing it over and over and OVER again for 2 hours. I seriously think I sang those 2 songs at LEAST 40 times in 2 hours. But it’s real sweet because these little kids can say “My God is so BIG. so STRONG and so MIGHTY. there’s NOTHING my God cannot do, for YOU!” The words probably don’t mean much to them now, but I pray they won’t forget those words and one day they’ll remember it and it will change their lives. Sunday guitar lessons are more structured and more for the church members. We have 4 students right now and the processes is slow… but I really want them to learn guitar in hopes that they will be able to lead worship one day. Right now Bansuan church has close to no teenagers (13-20)… there’s around.. 3?? I’m not so sure… but there are a lot of little kids. But since there aren’t any youth, there isn’t a youth fellowship or anything. There’s only sunday school for little kids and then adult worship service. So what’s going to happen when all the kids get older? I don’t know… but I’m praying that God will give a vision for one to start. Maybe it’ll start one one of the guitar students who wants to sing worship songs with other people.
Thank you guys so much for praying for me! God has definitely been moving and guiding me throughout this trip. I know I shared this i my last post, but I’ve never been able to serve with so much joy in a place where the kids wild. I’m usually a control freak, but God’s given me so much grace on this trip to be able to adjust, keep control over the classroom for the most part, LOVe on, and love playing with these crazy kids. The language barrier was the most difficult thing for me to face last year in Taiwan (even tho I speak the language!) but this year God has reminded me over and over that I don’t need language to show Jesus’ love. but i do pray that I can grow deeper relationships with the kids even though it’s very difficult without being able to speak thai. I have grown such a big heart for God’s children here in Thailand… pray walls satan has put up will be torn down and hearts would return to Jesus. We were talking to a missionary here in Thailand he said that these next 10-15 years or so is PRIME harvest season. Bangkok is currently less than 0.1% Christian… Let’s kick the enemy off God’s land!
As promised, here are a few pictures (:
